Painting at the bridge near the RijksmuntThis week started a new painting of my own neighbourhood Lombok in Utrecht. It's a slightly larger canvas than I usually work with outdoors, so I had to finish it today.
I really love the old little white bridges at the canal near the Rijksmunt. I decided to paint next to the bridge so I could use the first bridge as a frame to make an interesting composition. At least that is what I think, I hope you agree with me....? As soon as it's dry I will try to exhibit it in the exhibition at the Parkhuis Lombok in the JP Coenstraat 5 so you can all enjoy this one. Title 'At the bridge', size 40 x 50 cm | 15,8 x 19,7 inch CITYSCAPES

Went to Amsterdam to bring my paintings for the exhibition at Arte-fact in the Berenstraat 24 and then thought of coming back later to paint the great view over the Prinsengracht at the Westerkerk. Although it was already Springtime and I was dressed up warm with my thermo-wear it was a really cold and windy day. Was stamping my feet on the bridge to get warmer. Great to paint the view at the Prinsengracht on a grey day. Think the old painting master Breitner would have loved the colors of this day too.

ARTE - FACT STORE Berenstraat 24 1016 GH Amsterdam OPEN 10 - 29 march 2015 mo-sa 11.00 - 18.00 su 12.00 - 17.00 NEW INSPIRATION FOR A HUGE PAINTING OF HORSESA few weeks ago we went to visit the beach of Belgium for a small holiday trip. While we were walking at the beach I did see a horse in the far distance in the cold water. When we came nearer I was really hoping he would come out of the water to the beach again and he did! I was really thrilled to meet the last horse fishermen in the world at the beach. Made a lot of pictures of the horse coming out of the water. They were fishing for shrimps in the old fashioned way. I felt like I had been traveling back in time and it reminded me of the paintings I did see in Skagen of the fishermen in Denmark 100 years ago. Started on this big canvas of 80cm x 150cm | 31,5" x 59" inch. Had to hang it on the wall because my easel couldn't manage this enormous size. Here I share already the start of the painting I am working on right now inspired by the horse fisherman of Oostduinkerke. Hope you enjoy my journey working on this for me largest canvas so far. fase 1This is the start of the painting I started with a yellow background to get rid of the white canvas. Then made a sketch of the horse and worked hard to fill in the large canvas. Because of the large size of the canvas had to step back a lot to see if everything is in its right place. Was great fun to work on this large scale it gives a lot of freedom of movement. fase 2In this fase I worked on the water and on the horse to check if everything is in it's right place and to give it more depth. Its always a challenge to ask yourself what does the painting still need? How far do you need to bring it....without loosing the energy of the start of the painting and keeping it vivid and sketchy. Hope this will work and turn out into a great masterpiece.
Will continue later on and post more pictures. Hope you enjoy the ride as much as I do....? Please leave a comment if you do :-) MY 'PONY RIDE' FOUND A NEW HOMEYIHAAAA!!! Last week I sold my lovely girl on her pony. Will of course miss her, because she surely was one of my personal favorites. But it's also good that my best works will go out on a journey and will spread some beauty out there in the world. Glad the new owner is very happy with my girl and will take care of her :-) What a great ride!
Will start a new very large painting soon. Already found a new great inspiration at the beach of Belgium last week. Painting sheep in the snowA few weeks ago finally was able to paint snow. Went out and drove to the east of Holland to capture these sheep in the snow. Was cold but what a great time to stick with them out there.
Am afraid this was the last time we did see snow this year....spring is on it's way. Hope you enjoy this winter scene I painted in the snow. |
